  • SAN FRANCISCO MUSEUM OF MODERN ART White Box Theatre 151 3rd Street San Francisco, CA, 94103 United States (map)

Don't miss the sole California appearance of the amazingly heavy FAENM PH 370-316. Company brass and factory-line staff will be on-hand for one afternoon only to demonstrate the latest technological developments in our fabled EXERCISE series. Initially developed by a motley crew of young scientists in a horse track grandstand by the freeway, this incredible machine continues to conquer the museum world, one White Box at a time. We invite the sophisticated Bay Area public to engage directly with our power-patented, 25-step book creating/destroying monstrosity and to heartily adopt our philosophy/motto: "Arrive perplexed. Depart with art."

FAENM PH 370-316 includes polyglotinous reel unwinding stand, ruling and flexo-printing tower, cross-cutting unit, sheet overlapping unit, sheet counting and collating unit, inserter for pre-printed index sheets, inserter for pre-printed title cover, wire stitching unit, folding unit, square back pressing unit, book front cutting unit, book separating cutting unit, book delivery table, waste removal system, centralized control panel (PLC), and more.

Simply put, old books will be made new under the watchful eye and mysterious hand of the FAENM PH 370-316.

Celebrate the life and work of Larry Sultan during this special event led by students from the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) and California College of the Arts (CCA). Throughout the spring, students from SFAI and CCA are collaborating with SFMOMA on a series of investigations inspired by Sultan's practice, culminating in this experimental event at the museum.
